Board, Paper and Tissue Technology Solutions Business Unit (BTS) supplies mill and machine improvements and equipment worldwide with innovative technology, the right services for reliable production, raw material and energy efficiency and circularity to help improve our customers performance forward.

We are now looking for an innovative and business-minded R&D Manager to lead the development of new, competitive products that provide significant customer value.

The position is based in Jyväskylä, Järvenpää or Raisio, Finland.

Your main tasks and responsibilities include

• Global responsibility for the BST R&D project pipeline; development of the board and paper machine improvement and field service offering.

  • Number of impactful new product launches per year, in co-operation with Marketing.

  • Successful completion of R&D projects, meeting budget and timeline targets
     

• Business unit offering portfolio management

  • Assessing and challenging the existing portfolio together with Global Technology Managers and Global Product Managers.

  • Developing new technologies and solutions in co-operation with other Valmet Technology Units and external partners.
     

• Business leadership

  • Leading selected key R&D projects

  • Continuous improvement of the innovation process to ensure smart use of resources and a faster turnaround of projects from ideas to sellable products.

  • Evaluating resource needs and development / deployment of skills

Expectations

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering related science required with a Master's degree preferred

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in research and development with demonstrated success in a   multi-cultural, international environment. Alternatively, a minimum of 5 years of experience with one of the Valmet technologies.

• Proven ability to convert customer needs and opportunities into R&D projects

• Good understanding and experience of board- / papermaking processes is considered an advantage. Alternatively, you master a technology area with potential to transform the Board & Paper technology in some way.

• Strong internal motivation with an ability to achieve results under pressure

• Customer oriented with an ability to quickly build relationships and achieve results individually and in a matrix organizational structure

• Good organizational skills and business acumen with an ability to effectively analyze situations to reach conclusions

• Effective written and verbal communication skills in English along with presentation and negotiation skills
