Senior Subject Expert, Applied Mechanics/Physics

If you are innovative and new technology development oriented professional, you might be the right person to join our RTD team in BU Rock Drills. We are now looking for a proactive Senior Subject Expert,

Applied Mechanics to take over an important role in a Rock Drill RTD team. This is a permanent, full-time position and based in Tampere, Finland.

Your mission

As Senior Subject Expert Engineer, Applied Mechanics the main scope of your work is around impact dynamics and mathematical analysis to support development of novel rock drill solutions for Top Hammer rock drilling methods. Solutions will be developed with team of design engineers. Work requires hands on approach and high-level mathematical skills. Another important area of your work is development and analysis of data, which is generated through rock drill- and drilling equipment sensors and control systems.

Your main responsibilities will include

  • Stress wave analysis applied to engineered rock drill solutions.
  • Support design engineers to solve complex problems within- and related to impact dynamics.
  • Algorithm development for efficient utilization of drilling sensor data for business development.
  • Creation of innovative and novel rock drilling and component solutions.
  • Support Rock Drills engineers in detailed design challenges.
  • Organize and implement testing programs for the new technologies within responsibility area in Sandvik’s test mine, outdoor testing areas and in customer premises.
  • Develop testing technologies to speed up reaching technology readiness level and time to market.

Your background and qualifications

You have a suitable educational background (experienced MSc or PhD in Applied Mechanics or related area) and several years of industry experience. You can easily adapt and focus between short- and long-term activities. You have enthusiastic attitude to search novel solutions and new methods. You also have patience to focus on details when needed while promoting long-term knowledge evolution.
