Chief Engineer, Wet Flue Gas Cleaning

Do you want to be forerunner in mechanical engineering of flue gas cleaning and circular economy solutions?

We are now looking for a Chief Engineer with a can-do attitude and curious mindset to develop and maintain Wet flue gas cleaning solutions portfolio in Valmet's Environmental Systems Technology Unit. We help our customers in Energy, Pulp, Marine, Wood panel and other selected industrial segments to accelerate circular economy activities and meet flue gas emissions limits with our solutions for dry and wet flue gas cleaning, electrostatic precipitation, and burner combustion.

Chief Engineer is a key role in our function. As Chief Engineer you are responsible for the mechanical design and solutions of the Wet flue gas cleaning product portfolio (SO2 and NOx scrubbers, venturi scrubber, tube condenser). Together with the Product Manager you maintain and improve our product competitiveness and develop the product performance to meet market needs. You also take care of the renewal and needed updates regarding new products, applications, or features.

The tasks include for example:

• cost competitiveness of the wet flue gas cleaning product portfolio

• product standardization and modular product structure development and upkeeping

• developing and maintaining technical solutions and templates (e.g. standard solutions library and drawings, design instructions, strength analysis, material selection etc.)

• leading and participating in development projects together with other functions

• collecting project feedback and sharing it with the organization

• technology training for colleagues and other stakeholders

You will also instruct and support the sales team to ensure that cost competitive mechanical concept with optimal layout is used. In delivery projects you will give instructions, help in technical problem solving and make decisions regarding mechanical design issues. Depending on your background you could also act in an Engineering Manager role in some delivery projects.

We have an ongoing product modularization project where Chief Engineer has a key role in ensuring timely progress. We are already in a good phase, but you still have vast opportunities to leave your mark in our product development and future way of working.

Expectations

To be successful in this position you should have a Master's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical engineering or similar. We expect you to have solid working experience from a similar position and knowledge of processes related to our technologies. In this role you are requested to travel occasionally. You have fluent English skills, both spoken and written, and other languages are an advantage.

We appreciate a team player with a positive can-do attitude and curiosity for mechanical engineering. You enjoy working with a versatile team of professionals. You understand the big picture and its causalities, but on the other hand you are also capable of detailed engineering work. You plan and prioritize your own work independently and can also lead others in your projects with clear targets and deadlines. You can deliver results in a changing international project environment with tight schedules.
