Corporate Risk is an independent control function responsible for the development of Fortum’s risk management framework consisting of policies, instructions, methods, processes and tools, as well as for implementing effective controls to ensure exposures remain within acceptable risk levels at all times. Corporate Risk also supports business in managing risks effectively and provides management with assurance that risks are adequately measured and monitored. Corporate Risk is functionally organized within Corporate Finance with a risk reporting line to Fortum’s Audit and Risk Committee. Corporate Risk team is located in Sweden, Finland and Poland.
About the role
We are looking for a Market Risk Controller to join the Market Risk team. You will be part of the Market Risk Team in Corporate Risk. We are 6 energy risk professionals, located in Finland, Poland or other Fortum locations, specialised to Market and Cash Liquidity Risks. You will report to the Head of Market Risk in Corporate Risk. The preferred location of the job is in Espoo or in Stockholm.
As a Market Risk Controller, you will be responsible for managing the control of market and liquidity risks arising from Fortum's businesses. Your job is to maintain and develop the framework for managing the market and associated liquidity risks arising from the Nordic electricity sales and purchases to the wholesale market and district heating and cooling sales. In your role you have holistic view of the commodity risk and its risk framework but you would specialize on the currency and interest rate risks.
You main responsibility area is to develop and maintain Fortum’s market and liquidity risk framework together with other risk teams and businesses (e.g. Market Risk internal controls, Market Risk instructions, Division hedging guidelines, Market Risk mandates, training of the risk framework) and determine market risk metrics together with Risk control teams and Businesses.
You’ll work in close co-operation with Trading Business and Treasury traders/managers on the daily basis to ensure that market risks arising from the position and p&l effect are fully understood and managed appropriately within the market risk framework.
Some travelling, mainly to Fortum countries, will be required.

What we are looking for
- Master’s Degree in relevant field (e.g. mathematics or economics)
- A few years’ experience with risk management
- Experience working with trading or hedging of market risks from the energy industry or financial sector
- Knowledge of interest rate risks, currency risk and capital market would be an asset
- Good communication and presentation skills
- Good PowerBI and Excel skills
- Fluency in English, other Nordic languages are a plus
You are skilled to manage conflicting situations and are willing to voice your opinion. At the same time, you are collaborative and are able to maintain good working relationships with colleagues, managers and specialists at several levels of the organisation. You are curious and solution-oriented and have a strong drive for continuous improvement.
