Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions (SMR) is a business area within the Sandvik Group and a global leading supplier of equipment and tools, parts, service, digital solutions and sustainability-driving technologies for the mining and construction industries. Application areas include rock drilling, rock cutting, loading and hauling, tunneling and quarrying. In 2021, sales were approximately 41.4 billion SEK with about 15,500 employees.

SMR Patents is an international team of patent professionals dealing with cutting-edge innovation at SMR. We are a diverse and highly skilled team located in seven different countries on three continents. We protect inventions by patent applications and prosecute the applications to relevant patents for SMR business. SMR Patents works together with other teams in Sandvik to use and enforce these rights. We support the different product areas of SMR’s global business. We are now looking for an experienced patent engineer or patent attorney to strengthen our team. This position reports directly to the Patent Manager and it is based in Turku or Tampere, Finland. 

Job Profile

This is the best place to be for an IP professional, as you’ll be working with all patent matters, from inventions to enforcement. In this role, you will be supporting SMR in various technical areas focusing on loading and hauling business. You will be part of a team comprising patent attorneys, patent engineers and patent administrators globally. You will provide wide range of IPR support to the SMR business including involvement in R&D projects, handling inventions, making searches, coordinating drafting, filing and prosecuting patent applications, strategic patent portfolio management and dealing with contentious matters. Your responsibilities also include continuous process improvements to protect and enforce IP rights within your area.

Your Profile
You are a patent professional with demonstrated ability to achieve results through teamwork in challenging projects and in an international environment. You have at least 5-10 years of experience in patent matters, and a M.Sc. degree in a relevant technical or scientific area. You enjoy working with inventions, engaging in research & development projects, and advising business leaders in IP matters and strategy. Professional qualifications of a European Patent Attorney or equivalent skills are highly valued.
