R&D Manager, BHEV Technology

Sandvik’s Battery Hybrid Electric Vehicle Business Unit (BHEV) with in Load & Haul Division (L&H) is an industry leading global provider of underground loaders and trucks with focus on technology development and future innovative solutions to enable sustainable operations for our customers.

We are currently looking for an energetic, dynamic and innovative R&D Manager, BHEV Technology. Business Unit has product development organizations in USA and in Finland and this is a great opportunity for you to become part of our international R&D team where you get to support L&H Division to be the market leader and front runner in battery, diesel-electric and hybrid electric vehicle offering. This is a permanent position based in Turku, Finland. Partial remote work is possible in the role, however occasional travel and presence is required in our Division headquarters in Turku.

Your mission

Your main responsibility is to develop the technology solutions, building blocks and concepts for BHEV’s, through leading the team of subject matter experts in the areas of UG loaders and trucks. Focus areas for the development are vehicle electric drivetrains, genset, cooling solutions and overall vehicle energy efficiency with high performance. The main responsibilities include the following:

• Drive the development with simulations of scalable, optimized and fit for purpose electric powertrain solutions on diesel-electric and hybrid vehicles
• Manage the technology development activities in the area of diesel-electric and hybrid solutions
• Define the powertrain design rules, control system functionalities and testing procedures which can be implemented in New Product Development (NPD) projects
• Deliver full scale unit concepts for NPD projects and support the design implementation
• Work in close co-operation with different partners both internal and external
• Secure patents and immaterial rights protection in BHEV technology area
• Coach and develop the team through excellent leadership skills and as well ensure health and safety through promotion of safe work practices, training and compliance to safety policies

About you and what we find important

You have a University degree in a related field, e.g. in Engineering and have several years’ of experience in eDrives, diesel-electric, hybrid or battery electric vehicles or its subsystems development. Proactive and systematic way of working and excellent skills in problem solving will be needed. You can work under pressure in the multicultural project environment, and you have a capability to lead the development team to meet the challenging targets and deadlines. As we operate in international setting fluent communication skills both in Finnish and English is mandatory requirement.
