We are looking for a

Researcher / Senior Researcher, Renewable Feedstocks with a focus on separation technologies

to strengthen our Feedstock Research Group in the Technology Centre, Kilpilahti. Our group is a part of the Feedstock and Pretreatment Department in Neste Innovation. We contribute to the development of Neste's future raw materials, the ones in prospect within mid and long term, and their value chains. We are responsible for delivering competence and preprocessing solutions enabling the use of new renewable, recycled, and scalable raw materials for the production of fuels, chemicals, and materials.

As a Researcher / Senior Researcher, Renewable Feedstocks you will work in our Innovation unit supporting our new  Business Platforms and other Innovation Projects in their initiatives to ensure success of Neste´s long-term renewable feedstock strategy.

In this role, you will 

  • Support research and scaling up of various separation technologies, and develop new ones for our Innovation projects focusing on new renewable, biobased feedstocks, such as algae
  • Research the quality, composition, and technical properties of feedstocks, and how these influence their behaviour during various processing steps
  • Plan, organise, lead, and report internal and external analysis and experimental work related to renewable feedstocks and their separation processes 
  • Act as an expert related to separation technologies, e.g.
  • Provide technical expertise for Neste decision making process
  • Support long-term strategy work for sustainable raw materials 
  • Provide business development with technical support 

You will work closely with a cross-functional team of experts, business development, engineering, and with various external partners. Our work combines accountability, cooperation, and the desire to develop and renew.

Keys to success in this role

The best combination of experiences, skills, and background is 

  • Master's degree or higher from a relevant field, e.g., Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Bioprocess Engineering
  • At least 5 years (Researcher) or 10 years (Senior Researcher) of relevant experience from research, process development, and/or engineering 
  • Knowhow of separation technologies, e.g., extraction, filtration, membranes
  • Analytic problem-solving skills with active solution seeking mindset
  • Ability to network and cooperate in-house and with partners
  • Fluent English and excellent communication skills, both written and spoken

We also value

  • Experience in laboratory and pilot scale research
  • Experience in scaling up 
  • Knowhow related to biobased raw materials, their structures and chemical compositions
  • Project management skills 
  • Decision making skills, proactiveness, and hands-on attitude
  • Understanding oil refining processes is considered as an advantage
