Cargotec is seeking a Sustainability Manager.

In this role you will be part of Cargotec's transformation into a sustainable-focused and future-proof company, focusing on Environmental Sustainability, with a strong link to social sustainability. You will be also working as part of the Group sustainability team in close cooperation with Cargotec’s businesses and functions with strong and hands-on experience of sustainability to strengthen and support the journey towards the Cargotec Mission Climate with a SBTi climate ambition as a 1.5 degree company.

You will be responsible for building trust and transparency with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen and develop competences and capabilities to enable value creation to generate additional business value and benefits in line with strategic and operational business plans.

The location of this position is optional: preferably Helsinki HQ  or one of our main locations in Europe.

You will report to the VP, Sustainability.

Main tasks and responsibilities

• Support the development towards becoming a global leader in sustainable cargo flow by being an expert in environmental sustainability (climate, circularity, resource use, biodiversity, new technologies, related regulations)
• Responsible for Cargotec’s EU Taxonomy interpretation and ecoportfolio criteria
• Manage and follow-up Cargotec’s development in product footprinting and related sustainability regulation and standard development (e.g. PEF, ISO, EPD)
• Lead Cargotec’s annual GHG inventory process and CO2 calculation methodology, including for example Cargotec’s Science Based Targets (SBTi) setting
• Sustainability support in Cargotec’s funding applications and projects
• Actively supporting and participating in Cargotec’s overall sustainability activities, including support for sustainability reporting and LCA calculations etc.
• Supporting Cargotec employee sustainability awareness raising by developing e.g. training sessions and materials
• Initiating new development projects around product sustainability
• Actively participating in defining and developing Cargotec’s sustainability agenda key focus areas
• Staying abreast of relevant sustainability technology development
• Structured problem solving together with Businesses and relevant functions
• Develop, implement and maintain tools, processes and systems in product sustainability.

What you’ll need to succeed

Education:

• Degree in a relevant engineering or business discipline.

Working experience:
In order to be successful in this position we believe you fulfil the following criteria:

• Experience in relevant positions within sustainability, especially climate, compliance, risk management, preferably within industrial manufacturing.
• Experience and/or knowledge in product footprinting (standards, calculation methodologies)
• Experience of hands-on continuous sustainability improvements
• Experience of development, training and implementation of tools, processes and requirements in global organisations
• Experience in coaching and influence others, and ability to work effectively in matrix organisation
• Experience of working, leading and successfully communicating with diverse cultures and nationalities
• Proven ability to plan, drive and execute using own drive and initiative.

Competence and skills:

• Sustainability expertise, especially in environmental sustainability
• Continuous improvement and results oriented mindset
• Strong influencing and communication skills
• Project management skills.

Language skills:

• English requirement: Fluent oral and written.

Personal attributes or qualities:

• Excellent communication skills and educational mindset
• Good cooperation skills
• Proactive, “can do” attitude.
