Finnish Meteorological Institute (Atmospheric Composition Unit, Research Infrastructures Group) is seeking for an ICT specialist to work as part of a team responsible for technical planning, developing and implementation of services related to ACTRIS Head Office and ACTRIS Data Centre cloud measurement data base.
Finnish Meteolological Institute hosts the interim Head Office for the European research infrastructure ACTRIS (Aerosol, Cloud and Trace Gas Research Infrastructure), which is a pan-European network of observatories and exploratory platforms providing a harmonised high-quality data from a wide variety of atmospheric measurements (https://actris.eu/). FMI also hosts the cloud profiling database for ACTRIS (https://cloudnet.fmi.fi) and is responsible for compiling, archiving and visualizing the large volume of cloud remote sensing data arriving from stations around Europe. This data must also be made accessible to a large scientific community and ACTRIS is working together with other European Research Infrastructures to ensure that our data services comply with the FAIR principles (https://www.force11.org/group/fairgroup/fairprinciples).
Candidates must have at least a B.Sc. or an equivalent degree in a relevant field (e.g. computer science, physics, or other related field). Furthermore, a successful candidate must meet the following essential criteria:
- excellent analytical and problem solving skills
- written and spoken fluency in English
- strong programming background
- good communication and organizational skills
- ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Additionally, the ideal candidate has experience in at least some of the following areas/techniques
- experience open data
- databases and data processing
- software testing
- web development
- experience in handling large scientific datasets
- written and spoken fluency in Finnish

The position will be located in the Finnish Meteoroligical Institute main office at Kumpula in Helsinki. The position is for 2 years starting from 1st September, 2021 (or as agreed), and ending to 30st August, 2023. There is a three month probation period in the position. Salary will be based FMI salary levels 10.5-11.5 depending on experience and performance of the successful candidate. The starting gross salary can be within the range of 3500-4000 euros/month.
